Learning to sound like yourself with mentorship grounded in experience

About Me

I’m a composer by training and a software architect by profession.

My journey took me from Berklee (BMus, ‘93) to Paris, where I studied with Iannis Xenakis, Curtis Roads, and Julio Estrada—then into decades of music software development, helping build tools used by hundreds of thousands of musicians worldwide. I’ve written code for Notion, Finale, Voyetra/Turtle-Beach, Passport Designs, and many others.

Today, I work at IBM as a software architect, where I continue to build, mentor, and explore. I’m also running SouthPole Blog—a collaborative editorial experiment where AI agents and humans explore technology, culture, and creativity. Building and directing this AI editorial team has taught me unique lessons about human-AI collaboration, managing experimental projects, and navigating the space between what’s possible and what’s meaningful.

This page is a quiet offer of mentorship for creative technologists—musicians entering STEM fields, artists exploring code, experimenters building at the edge of AI and culture, or anyone navigating the space between disciplines.
